The benefits of regular meditation

Updated: Aug 19

Starting to meditate on a regular basis has truly been a "game changer" for me to reducing stress, letting go of thoughts, and learning to listen to my body. More and more prominent people write about their meditation practices, but when you're feeling stressed or overwhelmed, it’s not always easy to prioritize 30 minutes on the couch to let your mind wander.

Among the various meditation practices available, Yoga Nidra has become one of my favorites, precisely because I find it easy-to-follow and it helps me get out of my head and into my body. During Yoga Nidra, also known as "yogic sleep," you enter a state of conscious rest, where you are neither fully awake nor asleep. This allows you to connect more easily with your subconsciousness, where growth and development can occur. In Yoga Nidra, you typically go through a body scan where you are asked to focus your attention on different parts of the body, one at a time, from your toes to your head. This helps you relax even more deeply. If you try this before going to bed at night, I can almost guarantee that you'll fall asleep more easily and sleep more deeply.

Through meditation, I have experienced benefits such as better sleep, higher tolerance for stress, increased ability to concentrate, and, most importantly, a deeper sense of inner peace. I’m also much more in touch with my intuition, which allows me to be more creative and make better decisions. Lying down on the couch when you have a lot to do may seem counterproductive, but trust me, it can actually be the boost you need to get your mind in the right place and get things done.

I’m looking forward to exploring this further this fall with a deep dive into Yoga Nidra and deep rest.

There are many apps that offer guided meditations, such as Calm, Headspace, and Sanctuary. You can also find many free meditations on YouTube.
